Launch of the Preliminary Test Rocket (PTR)

On April 29th, 2023, the UC Irvine Rocket Project Launched its first liquid bi-propellant rocket. The Preliminary Test Rocket (PTR) is fueled by liquid methane and oxidized by liquid oxygen. PTR reached new heights with an apogee of 9300 feet and a burn time of over 13 seconds. This accomplishment is the product of over 6 years of tireless design and testing. This is the first rocket of this project and its success is very telling as we begin to prepare for our next adventure!

Dewar Operator & Ignition Specialist

In this pursuit I served as our teams Liquid Nitrogen Dewar Operator and Ignition Specialist. I took a big part in refining our filling procedures, making our ignitor mixture, and leading the team through all preliminary tests leading up to launch. Through this experience I learned how to work with my team similarly to the Vertical Test Fire and surpassed all stressors and possible issues. This experience has equipped me with the knowledge of design processes, testing etiquette, and leadership required to excel in this field. I joined this team a year ago. I joined in the pursuit to learn, collaborate, and become a part of something bigger. This team taught me how to think critically; it taught me how to actively work towards the impossible. Most importantly, it has shown me that this is what I wish to do for the rest of my life, to pursue the sky and everything above it. I cannot wait to keep going higher as this teams Lead Propulsion Engineer.
